5 Products for a Safer Site – Construction Injury Prevention
The construction industry is no stranger to injury. Accidents happen fast and usually give way to a period of repent after the fact. Prevention of such mishaps is plausible, yet given the volatile nature of physical work, not always possible. Anticipation is the antidote to avoidable accidents and the items below can help with just that: avoiding accidents.
1. Material Bins – Construction Material Disposal
Construction requires destruction. Loose material, trash, and scrap pose threat to workers onsite. Waste needs a home and there is nothing more efficient than a durable material bin. These bins make collection and disposal easy, while keeping the workspace safe and clean. Both slanted and straight side bins are produced and ready to use.
Working at heights brings its own type of risk. And while greater safety measures are being taken each year, the number of fatalities due to falls, trips, and/or slips continues to remain consistent. In fact, according to OSHA, “Work-related fatalities due to falls, slips, and trips increased 1.8 percent in 2022, resulting in 865 fatalities, up from 850 in 2021. Most fatalities in this category (80.9 percent) were due to falls to lower levels, which had 700 fatalities in 2022. This was a 2.9-percent increase from 680 fatalities in 2021.” Work platforms are a great answer to this problem. They provide a sustainable, safe place for workers to be, no matter how great the height.
3. Certified Personnel Baskets
If transporting employees between levels via crane is your thing, then personnel baskets are essential to maintaining a safe environment. These semi-enclosed structures ensure protection for all parties involved.
4. Heavy Duty Equipment Stands
Certified, ASME PASE 2014 equipment stands an essential piece of gear. The need to lift equipment into the air for repair and/or inspection may come at a moment’s notice. This, of course, brings obvious risk; risk that, with the proper equipment, is nullified to an acceptable degree.
5. Heavy Equipment Cabs and Control Rooms
Operating heavy equipment in hazardous environments calls for proper protection. Such protection is achieved by using cabs and control rooms on all heavy equipment. These products protect in the case of a roll-over, guard in inclement conditions, and defend against external objects. Cabs and control rooms are “safe homes” for construction workers and should be present on all sites.
Risk is inherent.
It’s our job to mitigate it.
These products can aid in our collective mission to reduce the number of accidents in the construction industry. Everyone deserves to work in an environment where preventive measures have been taken and risk management has been implemented.
Safety for our workers is not a prerogative.
It’s a duty.
